Fandom Friday: Good Friday edition
Friday, 18 April 2014 01:18I'm procrastinating big time. I have not started on the psychological report and I only have two days left to work on it. Plus the planned activities for the CSA group therapy I have to work on. I'm so dead. I didn't do anything this week...at all. I only slept and did not much else. Sleeping the day away is actually draining.
But I still have enough energy to fangirl with. I saw two updates on my facebook that totally made me giddy:
1) Vanness is friends with Bolin Chen! Yey! So happy. And he (Vanness) has a new project (not sure if drama or a movie) called "Best Friend." Can't wait for more news on that. :)
2) George Hu has a new film (I think). A war film where he sports a moustache.
3) Esther Yang and Nini are soooo cute. Hope to hear news about a new project for them soon.
4) (old news clip) On youtube, I saw LeeHom making sweets with his wife in front of the reporters. They are so cute together and very happy.
*drags self to work*

Yearend review: The Year in fandom
Friday, 27 December 2013 13:43This 2013, I discovered a lot of artists and personalities to go gaga over...to the detriment of my acads and work life. So here are the hi-lights of my fandom this year, on the last fandom friday of the year:
* Love Now, George Hu + Annie Chen
- I can't get over how electrifying their chemistry is on-screen and off-screen (during the behind the scene footages). I have yet to watch Love Around (still disappointed that it only lasted for 21 episodes), but will get it to it soon (after I finish jotting down all my fave lines in Love Now).
* Esther Yang
- she's a Christian, an ABC, a model, and she is too adorable as Yang Yi Qing. My face always lights up when I see an update on her page on my newsfeed.
* Tohoshinki/DBSK/TVXQ
- never mind that they already split up into duet TVXQ and JYJ. Their harmony and talent is so phenomenal, they deserve such a name "4 gods of the east." As much as I love Arashi, these 5 totally beat them in terms of dancing and singing. They can sing acappella!!! Their dance steps are sharp and intense. Although I cannot call myself a Cassie (a fan), I also wish that the 5 would share the same stage again.
* Sung Si Kyung
- his voice is honey, and his english covers are impeccable. And his duets with Lena Park is bone-meltingly nakakakilig.
* Camille Co
- another fashion blogger I started to emulate. She and Laureen Uy are blogger besties and both of them have awesome fashion sense--daring yet still darling. (speaking of Laureen, when did I start following her?)
* Vanness Wu's marriage and Wang Lee Hom's official girlfriend
- 2013 is a year of answered prayers! I am so ecstatic that these two have found the one they have been longing for, singing about in love songs. I pray that they would remain blissfully happy and blessed and their relationship would remain strong.
next year will be an awesome year, with Arashi's 15th anniversary (oh my poor harddrive!), reuploads by different subbing communities (yey!), and new projects by everyone! So happy!

friday the 13th
Friday, 13 September 2013 18:31I don't believe in bad luck. But Friday the 13th always gets my attention for some reason.
Anyway, today is fandom friday! I shouldn't have time to spend on fandom friday, but since I'm here might as well practice writing.
newest fandom: George Hu and Annie Chen <3
* George Hu Yu Wei is a taiwanese actor who grew up in New York. Like most Chinese/Taiwanese stars who grew up in America (like Lee Hom, Vanness), he got scouted when he went to Taiwan for a vacation. He starred in the live action version of Hayate the Combat Butler, the uber saccharine lovecom "Love, Now" with Annie Chen and another one with her, "Love Around." He has a degree in computer science. He was (is?) a member of a boyband Wu Hu Jiang (his bandmates are his co-stars in drama "K.O. 3san Guo.") According to his wikipedia page "He is also known in New York for his many performances in N Y Wutang Chinese Martial Arts Institute where he learned from Master Marlon Ma in the styles of long fist, praying mantis, and baji for about 14 years according to before moving on to becoming an actor in Taiwan."
I've always had a weakness for Asian stars (whether they be Korean, Japanese, or Taiwanese/Chinese) who can speak fluent english. It's probably because it such a treat to catch a phrase of two that I can actually understand from their dialogue. It's easier to know more about them to since they can speak in a language I can understand (through english interviews, blog entries). And his english lines in "Love, Now" were really such a treat (not to mention super diabetes-inducing sweet).
So I fell in fandom with him through the drama "Love, Now,"because his chemistry with Annie Chen is really realistic and contagious. Super kilig talaga. There's something in the way he stares at her, the way he smiles that is so convincing and so endearing. I really don't have any interest whether they are dating for real (because to be honest, I'm not interested in their personal lives), but it really made my week to know that they are starring in another rom com! And this time, the plot is more interesting (it has action scenes!). He is a reformed gangster who got dumped by hiw girlfriend for being a gangster, she is a DJ (who was also dumped) who hates hooligans and starts a fight with his boss/dad(?). I really can't wait for someone to upload re-encoded episode with eng subs (too bad its only 20 episodes. Bitin!). Can't wait for the sem break to finally go on a "Love, Now" marathon (all 72 episodes)! And collect his other dramas.
*another can't wait: Dramafever is collecting questions to ask George Hu (just like how they asked Furukawa Yuki of Mischievous Kiss fan questions). I super can't wait to watch him answer questions in english <3

Kaneshiro-sama <3
Friday, 31 August 2012 21:10...is now my favorite actor. I can't put into words how captivating his screen presence is. He really makes it easy to fall in love with the characters he plays. Or maybe I'm just infatuated with him. But honestly, he is a great actor, really intense. I hope I can find more of his movies (especially the older ones). And I hope that he stays in love with acting, and his management takes real good care of him. I want to see him play more interesting roles.
And I pray that he would take better care of his health and stop smoking. (and find that woman meant to share his life with him)
He is really a sweetheart. I've been reading his interviews, and I'm surprised to read that he is actually a very private preson (kinda like Leehom). He would rather stay at home and play games/surf the net on his free time. And stay with his family. <3 I feel like he is still that young half-japanese-half-taiwanese boy, bullied in school, unsure of where he belongs. Even after all the fame and the acclaim, he is still down to earth, a son to his parents. At least, that's my impression of him. He is a celebrity in every sense of the word )a superstar even), but he wants to be just "Takeshi."
He shared a funny experience with fans in one of his interviews. When his fans saw him, they started screaming, asked him to sign something, and go off and fangirl some more with their friends, abruptly leaving him alone, "I am left there standing as a dumb, and no one comes up to talk about anything else." (interview) Awww...but I could understand what could be going on in their minds: "Ah! It's Kaneshiro-samaaaa~ bdhcbciuhrvnjgcyudbmwkjeciocn *mind blacks out*" Well, that's probably what would go on in mine. Running towards him to ask for his signature would simply be my body moving on its own. I wouldn't dare to take up more of his time (and chat him up), having ambushed him like that.
This TIME mag interview sheds light into his "personal rootlessness" and how it has helped him be a chameleon on screen. Makes sense that he can be as convincing in a Japanese series as he is in a Hongkong or Chinese big budget epic. No matter what role he takes, no matter what nationality, he delivers. And the stranger, quirkier the role, the more it fits him. Can't wait to see what he plays next.
