Ever since I found out that there would an RK Live action movie, my fangirl heart has been set to watch it as soon as possible. Then news of a local screening here in the country came up and I was beyond elated. Until finally it was confirmed. Initially I planned to watch it with my brothers and 2 family friends we haven't seen in ages. I planned and coordinated and bought tickets in advance just so we can experience the magic of seeing a live-action Kenshin hacking down people with his sakabatou. But in the end, none of my brothers could make it, and I was left to watch it with one of the family friends and his friend. It didn't diminish the awesomeness of the experience, but there was a point when I was close to crying because I had 2 extra tickets, already paid for. After all that effort to watch the movie together, it didn't happen. But oh well. I was still able to watch it with Kuya Jedi and I met a new interesting friend. And we got to hang out after the film. So even though one ticket wasn't used, it didn't matter in the end. That's how awesome the film was. And being with friends who share the same love for RK made it so so so much more awesome.

What I loved most about the film was the faithfulness to the anime/manga--from the costumes to the plot to the action scenes. It really was a live action version, not an adaptation. Initially we were worried that Warner Brothers would mess it up. Thank God Japanese people were in charge of production and filming. It had the right amount of action, drama, and comedy.

Sato Takeru was awesome as Kenshin. He really brought the role justice. He really captures Kenshin's gentleness and charm (~degozaru), and his bad@ssness. He executed the action scenes really well, very realistic. And he captured my interest, so I'm wtching his drama Q10 to see more of him.<3

Takei Emi was also great as Kamiya Kaoru. Eventhough I really disliked Kaoru (because I am Mrs. Himura), I liked her in the movie. She was strong and reckless, yet kind and compassionate. And that scene where she was gasping for air when Jin'e did that control techinique thing on her, superb!

Aoi Yu as Megumi has got to be one of the things I was watching out for. From her variety appearances that I've seen, I know she is actually very  demure and soft spoken--very different from the alluring foxy Megumi. She nailed it. It had the right amount of landi and choleric take-charge attitude. I like her even more.

I'm not familiar with the actors playing Saitou, Sano, and Yahiko, but they were awesome as well. Right down to the characteristic gestures and battle poses.

I really loved the film. It's everything a fan can ask for and more. So much fanservice! Fangirl moments:
* when Kenshin first donned the iconic red kimino and white hakama, they actually slowly panned up--from his feet to his scarred cheek.
* when Kenshin first saved Kaoru from Jine, he flew from nowhere, dodging with Kaoru in his arms. His killer line: "I forgot to bring this (hanky) back."
* Megumi flirting with the clueless Kenshin!
* Saitou and Kenshin's fight scene in the rain!
* All the fight scenes! The actions and sword play are very clean and realistic. It's no tango (i.e. the opponents attack one by one).
* Saitou's iconic battle pose (totally went "Kyahh." Thank goodness the rest of the audience cheered as well)
* Sano's battle at the mansion. Really funny.
* Jine's back hand technique and Kenshin's double whachamacallit techinique (where he used both his sword and sakabatou in battle)
* The "Tomoe" flashback (although they didn't show her face), where they showed how Kenshin got his first scar!
* Yahiko's brash and cheeky comments.
* when Sano first showed up on screen (the whole theater cheered!)

I'm looking forward to a sequel (I mean they had better. The first film was kinda bitin, and they have an assurance that they will make a killing at the box office if they make another one, especially if it's the Shishio arc). Until it is confirmed, I will have to content my fangirl cravings with Q10 and maybe an RK anime marathon over the Christmas break.
